Fossil Fuel Energy has been an non-renewable resources used for people’s life and industry production. Both developed countries and developing countries still depend on fossil fuel for economic development and society progress. But with the climate change become more severe, it calls more on transition of fossil fuel.

In today’s article, we are going to talk about technologies used in fossil fuel energy, types of fossil fuels and their uses as well as applications, major producers of fossil fuels around the world

Pole line hardware are devices that are used on the aerial construction of the overhead power lines which are essential to ensure safe and secure connections. They are used to brace the connections of the devices used to complete the transmission lines. They include devices such as guy attachment, guy dead end, insulator pin, pole bands, screw hardware, secondary rack, stay rod, guy wire and steel cross arm.

Types of fossil fuels

The formations may lead to different types of fossil fuels which include coal, crude oil and natural gas. Spool insulators are also used to protect the overhead devices from the overcharge current that may cause damages to the transmission lines. The different types of fossil fuels are further discussed below.

Coal

Coal is a material that is usually found on the sandy rock deposits where rock and dead plant and animal matter are piled up in layers. It is also a hard black colored substance made up of carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen and Sulphur. The main types of coal include anthracite, bituminous and lignite which are differentiated by the concentration of carbon and oxygen. Coal is processed industrially to produce coke, coal tar and coal gas. The process of forming coal is called coalification where a dense forest is buried in the earth for many years. They face the high temperature and pressures in the earth and they are slowly converted into coal. Spool insulators are installed near the conductors to provide maximum protection from damages.

Uses of coal

  • Coal was initially used to produce vapor used in the railway engines.
  • It can be used in cooking.
  • It is used as a fuel in power plants to generate electricity.

Natural gas

Natural gas is a clean non-toxic gas which is colorless and odorless that is used as a fuel in many processes. Natural gas is less expensive and does not pollute the environment. Natural gas is formed when the mud is buried under more sediments and lithifies to form an organic clay. Spool insulators are made from similar material as the conductors to prevent abrasion.

Uses of natural gas

  • Natural gas can be used in power plants to generate power.
  • It is also used as fuel in transportation.
  • It can be used at home for cooking and heating.
  • It is also used as a starting material in chemicals and fertilizers.

Petroleum

Petroleum

This is also known as crude oil or simply oil and it is a clear liquid that has a very strange smell. It is usually a combination of petroleum gas, diesel, paraffin wax, petrol and lubricating oil. Spool insulators are used to protect the other devices used on the transmission lines from physical damages. It is formed from the compression of dead plant and animals exposed to high temperatures and pressures which converts them to petroleum.

Uses of petroleum

  • It is used to power internal combustion engines in the form of petrol.
  • It is used in roofing, road pavements and as a water repellent.
  • It can also be used in manufacturing detergents, plastics, fibers and polythene.

Technologies used in fossil fuel industries

Many technologies have been developed which have the potential to economically transform fossil fuels and biomass to useful products which include electricity without emitting carbon dioxide to the atmosphere. ADSS accessories are installed near the conductors and semiconductors to prevent the damages caused by vibrations from string winds. The main technology that is being adapted in the USA is as discussed below.

Chemical looping

This technology uses metal oxide elements in high-pressure reactors to burn fossil fuels and biomass without the presence of oxygen in the air. The metal oxide provides the oxygen for the reaction. It is capable of acting as a substitute technology that can provide clean electricity until renewable energies such as solar and wind are adapted into the industry. It is also used for production of syngas which in turn provides the building blocks for a host of other useful products including ammonia, plastics and carbon fibers. ADSS accessories are made from a similar material as the conductors to prevent abrasion which is caused by rubbing against each other. The technology provides a latent industrial use for carbon dioxide as a raw material for producing useful products.

Producers of fossil fuels around the world

Fossil fuels contribute to more than 80% of the world’s energy produced. This means that as much as fossil fuel contributes to the climate change, it is the biggest source of energy and it would be difficult to phase out the production. The biggest producers of the fossil fuels are led by the USA, Russia, Iran and Canada. Pole line hardware are used to stabilize the electricity supply and protect people and animals from the flowing devices from the transmission lines. We will look at the producers of fossil fuels depending on the type of fossil fuel produced.

Producers of coal

Coal is formed from ferns, plants and trees which over time have hardened due to the immense pressure and heat in the ground. They are buried for longer periods of time under high pressure which leads to the formation of coal. Coal is used in electricity generation, creating steel and cement and as a fuel. The top producers of coal include China, India, USA, Australia and Canada.

Producers of natural gas

Natural gas undergoes the processes of oil but only that it takes longer periods of time and higher pressures. Natural gas is mainly used for generation of electricity, heating, cooking and manufacturing of chemical products. The main producers of natural gas include USA, Russia, Iran and Canada. Pole line hardware are also used to ensure that the electric current flows through the main lines to prevent losses of energy.

Producers of oil

Oil is formed when the small organisms are exposed to high temperatures under the earth’s surface which converts it into oil. After the extraction, the oil is sold as fuel which can be used for transportation. The main producers of oil include the United States, Venezuela, Saudi Arabia, Russia and Canada.

Companies in the fossil fuel industry

Many companies in the fossil fuel industry have taken more responsibility in the emissions of the greenhouse gases. The following are the main companies that contributed to the production of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. ADSS accessories are manufactured by different manufacturers and suppliers that enable efficient supply of electricity. The companies have devoted to obtaining energy from renewable energy in order to promote the green transition. This has been supported by great companies such as Apple, Facebook, Google and Ikea.

Transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy

We have already discussed how fossil fuels are damaging our environment and human health. Various advancement in technologies and new sources of energy have been developed in order to curb the use of fossil fuels. However, this has proven to be difficult as the reliance on fossil fuel is great and it will still be needed to power the new technologies. Transmission insulators are very essential in ensuring there are nor electric shocks on the overhead lines caused by leakage of current. The transition is expected to be powered by the use of renewable sources such as solar, wind, hydro, biomass and geothermal power. This has however proven to be difficult and it has been contributed by the following reasons:

No better alternative

The one reason we are still stuck in the use of fossil fuel is because no better alternative has been found to replace oil and natural gas. This is based on its availability and flexibility for the purpose of use.  Oil is unlimited and more safe technologies for the extraction of oil is being advanced every day.

Reliance on fossil fuels in the industries

The availability of oil, coal and natural gas is greater than the availability of solar or wind. This makes the dependence of oil and other fossil fuels to be great which may be harder to shift from. The use of fossil fuels was adapted after the reliance on solar became inefficient and fossil fuel seemed like a great idea. This was before the effect of carbon dioxide into atmosphere was known.

Capacity of renewable energy

The amount of energy produced from renewable energy sources cannot amount to the energy produced from fossil fuel since it contributes to more than 80% of the world’s energy. More so, the sources of renewable energy have to be advanced and adapted to more countries for reliable and efficient energy production. Transmission insulators are also important to protect the conductors and semiconductors from the electric currents caused by lightning during the heavy storms.

Benefits of using fossil fuels

Despite having major effects to the climate change and the environment, fossil fuels has other benefits. Pole line hardware have a great mechanical and tensile strength for longer service life.

  • Fossil fuels can be found easily within the earth.
  • They generate a lot of energy at a single station.
  • The transportation can be done in pipelines as in the case of oils and gas.
  • They have become safer over time with advancing technologies.
  • They are easily available and cost effective.
  • Fossil fuel is more reliable than renewable energy.

Problems with using fossil fuels

Fossil fuels are used for many ways that contribute to the growth of the industries and the economy. ADSS accessories are have a high mechanical strength that provide the stability of electricity supply. There is however, a number of problems with using fossil fuels which include:

  • The burning of the fossil fuels leads to climate change through the emissions of greenhouse gas emissions.
  • The toxic emissions from the fossil fuels lead to health issues such as heart attacks, respiratory disorders, stroke, asthma and autism.
  • It may also cause absenteeism at school and work.
