Polymer Surge Arrester

A polymer surge arrester is a non-linear overvoltage protection device used in power line construction to protect transformers, conductors, insulators, and other electrical equipment from transient overvoltages caused by lightning strikes and switching operations. It typically uses zinc oxide (ZnO) varistor blocks housed in a weather-resistant polymer/ silicone rubber enclosure. During normal operation, the arrester remains highly resistive; during a surge, it conducts excess current to ground and limits the voltage reaching protected equipment.

Key Features:

  • ZnO varistor technology for fast, non-linear surge protection
  • Polymer housing with excellent insulation and weather resistance
  • High mechanical strength and resistance to vibration and impact
  • Hydrophobic surface helps reduce leakage current and contamination effects
  • High creepage distance for reliable performance in polluted environments
  • Lightweight construction for easier pole-line installation
  • Excellent resistance to UV radiation, moisture, and corrosion
  • Pressure-relief capability to improve operational safety during internal faults
  • Low residual voltage for effective equipment protection
  • Suitable for overhead distribution and transmission applications
  • Available in different rated voltages, discharge currents, and energy ratings to match system requirements.
