Line Surge Arrester, 34.5 KV Line Voltage
A line surge arrester (LSA) is a polymer-housed, metal-oxide surge protection device installed directly on overhead power lines to mitigate lightning-induced and switching overvoltages. It provides localized insulation coordination by limiting transient voltage peaks to a safe level, thereby preventing flashovers, insulator failure, and conductor damage in medium- and high-voltage networks.
Designed for pole-top or cross-arm mounting, line surge arresters are widely deployed in distribution and sub-transmission systems, particularly in lightning-prone or high ground resistance areas. The device operates by transitioning from a high-resistance state under normal system voltage to a low-impedance conduction mode during surge events, clamping the overvoltage and safely diverting surge current to ground.
